Blackboard Online (Anonymous) (Ultra)

Blackboard Online (Anonymous)

This workflow supports anonymous submissions by an individual student via a Blackboard submission point. Submissions are then marked online. This is one choice for anonymous assessments, with Turnitin offering a trust-based alternative. You should consider if the delegated marking features and total level of anonymity meet your team’s requirements before using this workflow.

Warning: This workflow has the following restrictions:

  • Group submissions are not available for anonymous submission
  • Tracking who has and has not submitted work using this workflow requires additional configuration and administration
  • To assign markers specific groups of students, this workflow uses Blackboard’s Delegated Marking feature, which can be restrictive

Discuss these restrictions with both administrative and academic/teaching staff before using it.

How to use this workflow

Click on the links to navigate to a section of the guidance. Within each set of
instructions, you’ll be able to navigate to the next or previous steps or return to the timeline. Each section is marked with the member of staff for whom the guidance is most relevant, but this may vary on a local level.

What options does this workflow offer?

This workflow also offers the following options:

  • Turnitin similarity and AI writing reports
  • Delegated marking*
  • The submission of any file type**
  • The submission of multiple files for one assessment

* Delegated marking is only possible with anonymous submissions using Blackboard’s Delegated Marking features. This presents some limitations you should consider first and it should be discussed with teaching staff before being implemented. If it does not meet your requirements but you still require anonymity, consider using the Turnitin (LTI) workflow or (when it becomes available) the offline marking workflow. If anonymity is not required, the Blackboard online non-anonymous workflow offers more flexibility for markers.

**Some file types may not be suitable for a Turnitin similarity and AI check.
